Victory 1SL 2017 is a successor of famous Victory 1S.

KIT of Donatas Design AL Victory 1S F3P model

This product includes ultra light fuselage parts made out of high quality carbon rods and thin Mylar sheet. Total weight of airframe parts is between 10,0 and 10,5 grams. Parts have white base coating and are ready for airbrushing. Kit is packed in resistant box and includes set of carbon rods, ball links, pieces of kevlar thread for final assembling.

Development of the top level aerobatic airplane like Donatas Design AL Victory 1SL is a difficult and time consuming task. Sometimes more effective way to do that – combine minds of several people in order to come up with something really exceptional.

Nowadays F3P is an extremely different aeromodelling class than it was just a few years ago. Pattern sequences became very challenging and noticeably lighter models had to be used in order to perform these manoeuvres well in low height halls. My friend Alexey Lantsov (pioneer of carbon technology) understood this very early and started to develop specific models that ought to give noticeable advantages for the pilots. And he did.


History of  Victory


He started Victory project right after the first World Championship in winter of 2013. Plane was built from carbon rods and tubes. This first model had removable wings for easier transportation. Weight of the first Victory version was 66 grams and it was about 15-25 g lighter than any other depron plane model in the competition. Once the new 2014/2015 sequences were introduced it was clear that even lighter and slower plane was necessary. In this stage I joined Victory project to help create better design and finally have plane that would allow pilots to perform most difficult sequences even in the lowest 6.5 meter halls. To make this reality we had to improve not only construction of the plane. Equipment had to be changed dramatically. Idea to use smaller 1S lypo battery instead of the standard 2s battery was born. We did research and selected the lightest possible equipment; lighter than 0,5g 7 ch receiver, lighter than 0,5g 3A esc, lighter than 11g coaxial system, lighter than 2g digital servos and lighter than 3g battery were necessary. A very special AL10/70 coaxial unit with 10 inch blades was developed by Alexey. The 1s battery provided a bit more than 70 grams of thrust. At that point it was the lightest coaxial system in the world. Another difficult task was to find good quality servo that will work with low voltage of just 1S lypo. After many tests we discovered that tiny Spektrum 2010 is showing the best results. Even when battery voltage dropped down during the flight, Spektrum 2010 servo kept center and provided the same power and speed. The next big challenge was the improvement of the construction of the plane itself. The use of thinnest carbon rods and tubes was necessary. We did research and started partnership with well-known and respected company called DPP from the Netherlands. Even thinnest 0,28mm rods had excellent strength properties while maintaining extremely low weight. After several months of work Victory 1S was born. Plane had just 38 grams RTF weight. At the same time it was a standard size F3P model which was clearly visible during the flight. It is important to notice that from the very beginning Victory was created as a carbon model. Important aerodynamically aspects had to be kept in mind. Appropriate wing area was selected. One thing we learned was that the carbon design had to be completely different in several important areas in comparison to the depron model.

This new plane showed it‘s potential during the flying of unknown sequence in the very first competition (German DMFV F3P championship). Low speed gave me enough time to perform difficult manoeuvres with ease. The next major competition and test for Victory concept was second F3P World Championship in Poland. The competition hall was simply huge. The ultralight 1s plane was not the best choice for such spaces. We decided to build big 2S version especially for this competition. I would call it another successful step in Victory project evolution. The bronze medal was won.


Story of Victory SL


For 2016/2017 season we received new FAI preliminary and final sequences and both had daring manoeuvres. Again, slower plane with adjusted aerodynamic was necessary. Necessary changes were made and little lighter and bigger Victory 1SL was designed. Plane was optimized for the average size halls (just like Strasbourg hall where the third F3P World Championship will be held). In addition to this, big attention was paid to the manoeuvres of higher coefficient of the preliminary as well as of the final sequence during the modifications of the model. I would like to describe in few words the strongest areas of this model. We spent many hours updating rolls (this is an essential element of almost any manoeuvre). I should admit that axial rolls with minimum correction of elevator and rudder provide a very smooth picture. Areas of the fuselage were carefully balanced and calculated for the best looking knife edge flight. We tried to reach minimal fuselage angle of attack for KE flight. Next important element is rolling circles. Once airplane center of gravity is adjusted well, this manoeuvre is a piece of cake! So natural and easy to perform that many pilots who flies Victory for the very first time makes it almost perfect. We experimented with different areas of aerobatic and surprisingly discovered that this low weight airplane is capable to make quite nice looking snap rolls and spins (naturally this is not real snap or real spin, since model wing loading is so low). To say it in other words, it is good to know that plane will still have potential when sequences will become even crazier.


Alexey has developed new 15 inch propellers with adjustable pitch for the 2017 season. Together with new AL12/80 system these provide great thrust in up lines, and noticeable braking in down lines. At the same time it is very efficient and with just 100 mah 1s battery plane can fly 4:30 min with ease. Naturally flying time depends on your airplane final weight, your flying style and amount of air brakes you use. Bigger propellers open area for precise personal setup and even slower down lines than before. This provides more benefits: it is more pleasant and easier to fly your plane; slower flight gives more time to evaluate manoeuvre; judges’ work becomes easier during the competition.

I believe that we are on the right way with Victory 1SL project. Our model proves that more efficient 1S lypo concept has a bright future. Now we are very proud to present Victory 1SL as a kit!

Radio receiver: we strongly recommend to stick to lightest possible receivers in the market as those specially designed for DSMX standard 0.3 grams of weight.

Flying time: 4-8 minutes. Depending on propellers choice, amount of air brakes and flying style.

Tools and materials required:

You will need few basic tools and materials to finish your Victory 1S. Sharp hobby knife, file, sanding paper, scissors, screwdriver, solder, thin CA glue and Kevlar thread. However assembling requires more skills and patience than assembling of foamy kit. It is strongly recommended to have some experience in indoor model building.
