Lithuania F3A/F6A 2016 championship

Lithuania F3A/F6A 2016 championship

Every July Lithuania aeromodelling federation invite RC aerobatic enthusiasts to Lithuania F3A F6A championship in classic pattern and artistic aerobatic. This year competition was held in Klaipėda, city located next to Baltic sea. Location and time were selected close to famous week long „Sea fest“ in Klaipėda. It was great to see competitors from five countries (Estonia, Ukraine, Belarus, Russia and naturally Lithuania).

Usually our championship is held in operating full scale airfields somewhere in middle of Lithuania. This year was different, Mr. Algis Ungulaitis (Owner of Composit-rc company) invite us to his private field located very close to Klaipėda city. This airfield is dedicated only for RC modelers. Great quality concrete runway was constructed few days before first pilots arrive to practise for championship. Runway length is 120×8.5m, this is more than enough even for big models! Main advantage, that runway is placed in such a way that sun do not get in flying zone, and do not blind/distract pilots. Private airfield allow us to enjoy airspace from early morning till late evening without interruptions.

On Saturday pattern was flown in 3 categories, C- basic sequence, A16 – sequence for advanced pilots and international FAI with only preliminary sequence this time. Each pilot flew 4 rounds and best 3 scores were counted for final result. Our friends from Russia and Ukraine bring modern composite planes with electric coaxial systems. Great thrust in up lines and efficient braking in down lines were provided by two props. In such way constant speed was reached. Mr. Vadim Spitalenko present really interesting Ukrainian design Mrija (in Ukrainian language it mean – dream). This biplane had really interesting technical solutions, that help to make integrated maneuvers with ease. And overall with this plane preliminary sequence look very smooth and pleasant. Similar style was flown by our friend Evgenij Prokofjev. His monoplane with huge T canalizer (Model name; Angel Shadow) made smooth flights with excellent snap rolls.

Once all four rounds were completed, Mr. Algis open bottle of champagne and spill little bit on a brand new runway. With hopes fur future expansion and many more successful championships and flights will be made here. Saturday evening traditional banquet was held right on the field.  Sunday was dedicate to Artistic Aerobatic class and show for spectators. Mr. Algis did great job promoting event, so quite big crowd of aviation enthusiasts gather in the field. people sure enjoy flights to music. I flew most of my show models together with other modellers. Unique aerobatic was shown with SebArt Mig-29 followed by war birds demo flights. In general we can consider this even big success, and now we looking forward for next year with some improvements and hopefully even more participants.
