Few days beffore Christmas i visit probably best F3P competition/show ever organized in Europe, Wall-halla.nl invite all top F3P pilots from all Europe, some of participants travel more than 2500km one way, this say allot!
Dutch Wall-halla was inspired by German Wall-halla first time organized last year. Weekend shedule (synchro flight competition, Airrace, Gala show, open Dutch F3P and AM championship), with such pilots as; Martin Muller, Gernot Bruckmann, Derk and Bert Van Der Vechts, Denis Horn, Markus Zolitch, Andes Leoni and many more sure promise amazing weekend!
Competition was held in small town Loop on Zand, with very nice neighbourhood Ok so lets start from begining, this time i decide go to competition with plane instead of driving two days with car, distance from Vilnius to Loop on Zand is more than 1700km one way... Its cheaper and much faster travel with airplane, and biggest advantage you don't feel like zombie affter trip;) But for such comfort you have to pay with stress in check in and baggage receiving point at airport, because of oversized lugage with fragile content. As far as i know in last Gernam F3P championship mr. Kimmo Kaukoranta baggage with planes was lost, and in competition he had to fly borrowed planes...so its always small risk. Deluxe safely packed inside of 19kg hardply box, for easier transportation landing gear removed.
Sultimate attached to top of box, i find out later this is not best way to do this... Two planes packed inside, ARTF (LITERALLY LOL) When we land in Amsterdam, i saw my box damaged with top open, this sure is not great way to start weekend... From scratches and damage to box, it was abvious that someone drop it quite hard. I can't imagine how workers of airport can work so irresponsibly, box is made from 8mm hardply, and normally i can stand/walk on it without no damage...Now i know how i need to reinforce it for next trip, i will pust short article about this in future, and now, lets go back to results;

 So as you see quite ugly but repairable damage, wings supports broken, tail broken, and both ailerons looks and have structure of accordion;) So instead of sitting in bar with all pilots i had to repair plane in hotel. Big thanks goes to Bert Van Der Vecht and Andris Sebins for help and materials for repair! Funny thing but this was first time when i forget to bring piece of depron and carbon just in case i need it for repair...;))) I finish repair about 00;30 and went to sleep, on saturday morning right affter breakfast we went to hall for test flight, plane flew good, so i was ready for competition. Aeromusical Synchro Flight First competition was quite new class Aeromusical Synchro Flight, originally it started last year i German Wallhalla. Overall 8 teams compete in this class, with participants from 5 countries (Germany, Latvia, Austria, England, Lithuania). Me and Gernot was only team composed with pilots from different countries;)
My and Gernot Bruckmann Sultimate's V2.

It took 3 rounds to see finall results, most of team show interesting flights and great control. My favorite was trio flight by Kai, Karl, Martin. Synchro AM is sure difficult type of flying, because you always have to talk with partner and follow two planes instead of one, not mentioning bigger chances to crash.
Latvian team synchro practice with cell phones;)
Snap roll? ;)
Kai and Christoph good looking flight with long streamers.
My favorite routine, Carl, Kai and Martin prepared for start. Results Pos Pilot Pnts Sum. Summary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 Gernot and Donatas; 356.5000 (R1:168.0000) R2:174.5000 R3:182.0000 2 Kai & Christoph; 342.0000 R1:170.0000 R2:172.0000 (R3:164.5000) 3 Markus and Dennis; 338.5000 R1:168.0000 (R2:159.5000) R3:170.5000 4 Kai , Karl , Martin; 336.0000 R1:165.5000 R2:170.5000 (R3:162.0000) 5 Bert & Derk; 334.0000 (R1:157.5000) R2:163.5000 R3:170.5000 6 Martin and Stephanie; 333.5000 R1:164.0000 R2:169.5000 (R3:144.0000) 7 Shahid and Ian; 209.0000 R1:111.0000 R2:98.0000 R3:0.0000 8 Kristop & Andris; 150.5000 (R1:64.0000) R2:80.0000 R3:70.5000

Wallhalla (Gala) show Saturday evening Gala show was organized, it was unbelievable, live band, fantastic looking light/smoke show, and many incredible act's, from indoor pattern to flying dragon, i suspect one video will explain more than 1000 words; More videos can be found here. My flight to live Gitaramas music. Some cooling for Gitaramas musicians. One of Show/Competition organizers, very nice guy and airbrush master Jeroen Van Gog. Nexus F3P demo. Quite interesting conditions to fly synchro flight, but not a problem for Markus and Denis;) If flying plane in dark is not hard enough, then try 3D heli, but remember to pick hall with 7m ceiling;) Derk super SLOWWWWWWW indoor jet. Show also include not only 3D/F3P planes, it was full of interesting things, that normally should not fly...;) Most impressive creature in Wall-halla, household dragon by Martin Muller. Can we have Christmas without flying santa and Rudolf? Santa helper and only female pilot Stephanie Schwan from Germany. One more crazy design by Martin Muller flying trucks. Jurgen Heilig UFO Real autogiro principle working model. Stephanie say big thank you for Wallhalla.nl organizers Bert, Jeroen, Derk and Dick, she also invite all pilots to join German Wall-halla, that will be help on 2009 02 07,08 in Schiferstadt. Fact that spectator seats was full even beffore show started say all. Airrace I can say that airrace was funniest part of competition. Durring training flight about half participants crash planes and destroy pylons;) i Think routine was not so difficult, but possition of pylons was problem, since it was far away from pilots in hall corners. It took allot work for organizers to make and repair pylons almost affter each round, in future Dutch need to learn from Czech here;) Because of lack of time only one qualiffication round was organized, and finals was held durring gala show. I made to finals (top 4) but did not risk to much since i had only one plane and AM competition still was ahead.
F3P pattern (Not official FAI sequence updated in Mons). Since old F3P-A routine is flown already 4 years, and was really boring for pilots, and hard to judge for judges (because to many pilots become really good at it), decission was made to fly new more chalenging sequence. Practice on sunday was not available, so this picture with planes in line show interest to practice as much as possible on saturday. I was ussing Deluxe V2, it is bassicly last year plane with few changes to be able fly new more chalenging sequences in smaller halls with low ceiling. Christoph Lausberg design Helix, really slow and good flying F3P plane. Fuselage is made from 2mm depron. Gernot Bruckmann smaller Sparki, for low ceiling European halls. Markus Zolitch Manta V2. Pilots waiting for next round. My second round with Deluxe V2. Pattern results; Pos Pilot Pnts Sum. Aeromusical One of my favorite planes in competition, father of F3P and VPP (Martin Muller) design Extra300 with airfoiled wing. Another AM Extra from Martin, here is what Martin can make with it on German TV. Gernot airfoiled Yak-55 with new painting scheme. Defintely my most sucessfull design Sultimate, durrin 2007/2008/2009 seasons with this plane i took 9 cups (most 1 places) in top F3P-AM/F6B competitions in Netherland, Belgium, Germany, France, Italy and Czech Republic. Results of third round of AM, probably best flight i ever made in competition. Third round AM video, new routine for 2008/2009 season. Results Pos Pilot Pnts Sum. It was fun to meet Andris Sebins for the first time in Netherland when normaly he live in Latvia and its only about 200km distance between us;) Im sure it was good experience for all Latvian team. Each competition bring something new, Wall-halla.nl was not exception, 9 year old Marc Faulhaber show amazing flying for his age!!! If i remember right this guy fly only one year, and he start indoor flying just this autumn!!! Check out his AM video to see what i mean. If Mark will keep interest in RC, very soon we will have one more very strong pilot in indoor scene. Summary I visit allot of top F3P competitions and shows durring last few years, Carvin, German championship, Mons, Aalst 3DC, Indoor fest and all of them have something special and nice to remember, but Wall-halla.nl had everything in one place, top pilots, good judging, great food, amazing show, new pattern sequence, live band and many more ! So all these things make it best competition i ever visit!!! Funny thing was everyone was so excited about successfull show/competition and already was talking about what we should do next, how to improve it, and no one bother to aks Derk, Bert, Dick and Jeroen will they organize one more competition next year;))) Overal its very big job to organize such event and make it run so smooth! But affter sunday conversation in hotel, i have good news, guys will be organizing this competition again, so if you miss it this time, don't make same mistake next year!!! My flight back to Vilnius was on monday evening, so we had enough time to visit Derk house, fix my box and even go fly to local airfield. Special thanks for Didier for test flight with his Acromaster, sory for bad Benoit Dierickx type landing mate;) Watch video to see what i mean;) Hacker jet motor ;) 2000eur...autch, its 1/3 of 40 percent 3D plane;) At Didier house, with his new CARF Ultralightning, size (3m) and quality of this plane is simply sick!!! RTF plane will cost about 6000eur. Wish you many happy flights Didier! My first jet start. Its easier (when everything build by experienced modeller) than you might think;) Quite impressive trust for loud thing without prop im use to;) But if talk serious i was impressed by level of jet flying in Netherlands, Bert told there is about 50-100 model jet pilots in his country!!! And most of them have few planes. HUGE thank you goes to Derk, Bert, Dick Van Der Vecht and Jeroen Van Gog for all help and wonderfull weekend!!! Also i wan't to mention people that help me allot to reach top results in top competitions; My dad/coach Rimutis Jan Vaclavik/Axi Ian Watson and David House/Flight Power Dean Kraus/Jersey Modeler Vytas/Vytas Brushless Lee Estingoy/Castle creations Chris Hinson /Extreme Flight RC Also thx for Jurgen, Andris, Dick for all material for this article. |
