Lithuania 2008 F3A;F3J and F3K Championship
Saturday, 02 August 2008
 Last weekend we had our National championship in 3 categorries, F3A-classic pattern, F3J-thermal soaring and F3K-hand throw gliders. Champnship was held in Alytus airfield already 4th time in a row.

 Competition was divided in two parts (to save time on F3J equipment preparation) so 8 prelim and 4 final F3J rounds was held on saturday and 3 rounds of F3A and 8 of F3K took part on sunday.

F3A

Third round flight, it can also be found on FlyingGiants.com

 Unfortunately this year i could not get/prepare in time big 2m plane, and my last season glow plane is already sold, so i had to use small Vanquish from Extreme Flight, that is powered by  Flight Power  EVO25 2500mah 4S pack. P07 is quite difficult sequence specialy for smaller planes, so i had to make some changes on my Vanquish to make it fly even better.

 I always find interesting to experiment with some aerodynamic devices to make good planes fly even better. This time i use CPLR idea T-Catalyzer. Since it was shown in France 2005 f3a WC, i was wondering is it just "look at me" type device ore it really work and give advantage. People like CPLR, BPLR and QQ don't look like persons that use device without real benefit.

  So i put small t Catalyzer on Vanquish, and i was surprised with nice changes i saw in flight;

* KE/KE loops does not require so much rudder input.
* All rolling maneuvers improve, fuselage stay horizontal, and maneuver looks smoother.
* Vanquish is small plane and it was quite hard to make good looking integrated rolling circles (not talking about rolling loops), Canard help here as well, with less correction it looks better.

T-canard is made from balsa, and reinforced/attached with 3mm carbon tube, inside of fuselage is also reinforced with balsa. Weight ready to attach canard was only 10g!

Affter one week of practice i get use to plane and ready for competition.

Turin, WAG 2009 test event. (Update 06 14)
Thursday, 12 June 2008

  I have wonderfull news, this weekend Lithuania team visit very interesting competition in Italy, Turin, it was test event for famous Worl Air Games in 2009 year. FAI promoting 3 new class,  F6A (Artistic Aerobatic) F6B (Aeromusicals) and F6D (Hand throw gliders) all these categories  will be included  in Worl Air Games.

 F6A, Artistic Aerobatic;

  Sad but this time Artistic aerobatic class atract not so much pilots, totaly there was 6  participants in F6A, organizers told Sebastiano did not prepare  routine because of bad weather beffore competition and bussy work schedule, Alberto had problems with his plane. Anyway small number of participants did not mean competition will b e easy, there was few some top 3m plane pilots, Gernot Bruckmann, Filippo Materazzi, Massimo Selva.

  As Artistic aerobatic rules say plane must be not bigger than 2x2m and not heavier than 5kg,its quite hard to reach such results, keeping good power for powerfull 4min routine. Masimo and Filippo flew Sebart 140 Funtanas, both electric powered, Gernot had new good looking Sukhoy 140 also from SebArt. I flew Extreme Flight RC , 58inch Extra 300, naturally it is to small plane for Artistic Aerobatic competition but with good weather conditions, it was competetive to 2m planes. Affter interesting fight with some best world pilots i was able to win competition, pictures and videos are much better than thousand words, so please enjoy;)

F6B Aeromusicals.

 Its quite strange to fly indoor when we have fantastic weather outside, but it was organizers idea to test all WAG classes in action. Few thing were different compared to other selection competitions i visit this indoor season. Main difference was pilot position, all pilots stand infront of judges and spectators, probably this give good chance to look at pilot face durring flight.

 I must say hall is very good for such top event, average size in lenght and width with very hi ceiling, give allot of space for  any routine.

 All pilots except Filippo (Vortex) ussed monoplans, Fabien flew Donuts models Yak, Gernot his profiled wing Yak55, Marco flew not typical am plane Mercury, i ussed Sultimate, and Gyula flew his own designed plane. I must say this young guy improove allot from last F6B Mons competition!

  LT team affter good start.

 Conclusion;

 Speeking for all Lithuania team, i can say this was one of the best (if not the best) competitions we ever visit, very helpfull organizers, nice athmosphere and allot of flying, what else you can expect? Naturally sad that contest atract not so much participants (specialy in Artistic Aerobatic class) as we expect, but we hope it will improve till next year. July 31 day will be decided how many pilots will be invited to main event. Total there is 10 airsports, and over 25 events, this promisse very interesting event.

Its only 12 days left untill one of most interesting modelling event for this summer. 2009 World air games selection contests are in full swing, and already half (mostly indoor F6B) selection contest is over. Now when wheather getting better and better its time tu run outdoor contests (F6A and F6D). On June 7-8 d. in Italy, Turin (Host of 2009 WAG), test even will take place in same location as main event next year. Both indoor and outdoor flying areas looks perfect.

Semifinals and finals will tentatively be flown on Sunday from 9 Am to 5PM outdoor and from 6PM to 8 PM indoor.

Training flights on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning at Pala Ruffini.

    Competition participants;

 This time Lithuania team will be bigger than ussual, because of more popular categories like F6D (F3K) and F6A.  Here is my friends that will come to Turin;

                                                    Ricardas Siumbrys F6D.

                                                         Vitalijus Pilkionis F6D.

                                                      Donatas Pampikas - F6D.

Evaldas Cerniauskas F6A.

 Juozas Svirusis F6D.

I heard from organizers that such pilots as; Gernot Bruckman , Lukas Riva , Sebastiano Silvestri , Fabien Turpaud , Filippo Materazzi , Alberto Caralo and many other registered for F6A class, so this guarante amazing show for spectators and hard work for judges. As far as i know this will be first competition ever, where helis will compete with planes in same class. Also quite interesting thing that Silvesti will fly with 3D jet Hawk, yes F6A rulles alow it as well.

Make sure visit my homepage after few weeks for full report about Turin test competition!
