NEW Aeromusical plane SUltimate !!!
Friday, 21 September 2007

This year i end F3A season earlier and right away start designing and flying new indoor planes.  Almost all my AM and F3P designed planes was biplanes and i was little tired of such construction. So this year i decide to try something new, at this point i look at real aviation and pick successful aerobatic plane SU29. Like most Russian aerobatic planes it have huge fuselage area. It is good for indoor aeromusical plane, since usually AM routine include allot of flying on knife edge, rolling circles, integrated loops, ETC, (and big fuselage area help here).

Main idea was to create mid size light overpowered indoor aerobatic plane with huge control surfaces and big deflections for crazy 3D aerobatics but still with capability to perform slow precise maneuvers . Here in first picture you see second prototype, with few small changes, in my opinion now it fly perfect.

 Real plane:

Great aerobatic trainer Su-29, designed by Sukhoi company.

Model technical spec's:

Fuselage lenght:
Wings lenght:
RTF weight: 120-150g, (depending on equipment).
Engine: My friend Vytas custom CD-R (~16g).
Propeler: APC 8x3.8, other options GWS DD 8x4, GWS 8X4.3.

Radio instalation from left: D47 elevator servo (pull-push), AR6100 RX, Hitec 65HB servo for ailerons and CC Phoenix 10a ESC. For more torque and speed, D47 servos are connected in Derk Van Der Vecht way (to ESC):

Only servos with special typo of motors can handle direct voltage from ESC. So only D47 on this plane is connected this way, Hitec 65hb still connected ussual way to RX. I made ~90 flights so far with such system and everything else work just fine, D47 servos become ~20% faster and stronger than before and most important precision stay same!

Since my this year equipment is very light i did not bother saving few g on construction, contrary i tryed to make plane strong and rigid as possible. As practice show after few thousands km trip to competition, most planes loose good shape and don't fly precise,  hope this year with extra strenght it will be different. Such wing reinforcement (with two CF points glued to small SFG) give extra strenght and don't let twist wing at big loadings in flight (shown in picture above).

Few more SUltimate pictures:

View from right side.

Should be enough throws for good 3D:)

Final adjustments, tip of wings is covered with round 3mm balsa, after some testing i see little difference in flying characteristics. With round leading edge it is plane fly with more precision.

Come back for more soon....
